What is slightly different and unforgivable though is just sloppy play like the first 25 mins against Gent- losing the ball with routine passes and gifting the opposition. All the players were guilty of that and it's a one way ticket to losing games.

Double edged sword with squandering possession.

Paqueta and Benrahma are the only players really willing to put the ball at risk with an attack minded pass or quick move to try and make something happen in an attacking sense for us it's almost always sideways or safe otherwise and a little more ponderous. But by the nature of trying this, things don't come off and it looks silly or frustrating, and they lose the ball more than those players who play safe options constantly.

By having them in the side, you have to accept this is going to happen if you want to actually try to attack and unlock defences. Leave them out and we will really struggle to create anything at all other than a long ball up to Bowen or Antonio to run on to.

If it's squandering possession that is the only danger, then you'd leave out Paqueta. Which obviously you wouldn't. You have to balance out the good and the bad.

The weird and wonderful world of football! Two/Three weeks ago we were wondering where the points were coming from to stay us up whilst no doubt spuds fans were p#ssing themselves over our drubbing by Newcastle, then came yesterday!

Wow, well done Hammers and surely a win over Liverpool would cement our place in the premiership for next season. No reason why we cannot do that!

“Liverpool are there for the taking on Wednesday but if we surrender possession like we did yesterday we will lose.”

Agree with the bit about possession - need the players for the job and that implies either Fornals or Downes starts with Rice and Paqueta.

Will it happen? No of course it won’t.

A good performance. Helped by a very poor Bournemouth, which surprised me. They've had their tails up last few weeks and have looked really good. I was expecting a much tougher game. Defensively they were poor and gifted us the first and the fourth.

However, we still needed to do the job and I thought Rice was excellent again. Paqueta starting to look like a £50m player. Soucek even had a decent game and was much more involved. I thought we looked much more assured on the ball and the team balance and shape was much better.

Zouma solid and the full-backs decent.

Like others have said, Aguerd looked OK but a bit shaky. Although I have no doubt he is going to be a very good player for us. And Bowen gets himself into great positions and lacks delivery.

But, overall, much improved and at least the players are showing some fight and look more united.

Great performance, that was the 2020/2021 footballl that was so good to watch. We knocked it about well and created chances constantly

Paqueta was very good, as were Rice and Bowen again

Long may it continue, huge month coming up for us

Liverpool are there for the taking on Wednesday but if we surrender possession like we did yesterday we will lose. Liverpool are inconsistent this season and this will be a test to see if Moyes has changed us tactically or he still has his inferiority complex against the 'big' clubs.

When someone says we play direct, I take it to mean hoofing from the back bypassing the midfield, I don't take it to mean scoring goals from set pieces which almost every club does at one point.

Is agree about Aguerd and Bowen yesterday, Aguerd did look shakey and Bowen just wasn't good and should have been taken off earlier cause to be fair he has run himself into the ground lately.

Soucek actually made a meaningful contribution defensively but his passing is still terrible

But what a great result and I definitely didn't expect it.

Cresswell's deliveries are back and so are our goals from corners!
Great for Fornals, he is a good player and it is good to see it working for him.
Paqueta showing his worth.
Nothing changed in our approach, but players finally doing the business, excellent to see.

The recent wins at the likes of B'mouth and Fulham have been very reminiscent of the last couple of seasons, i.e turn up at these tin pots clubs saying we're West Ham you cunts and we're leaving with 3 points.

Pleased for Fornals, must be hugely frustrating for a pro to train all week and then not play on a Saturday, totally get that.

Two slight moans I'd have is I thought Aguerd still looked shaky at times, and a couple of times Bowen was in good positions but didn't deliver. He comes up short of being real top class, which is no doubt why he's still here.

As good as safe now, not that this squad of players were ever going down anyway, as I've said all along.

Jasnik 20:57 Not if the corners overhit or doesn’t clear the first defender,Cresswell’s delivery was superb today and something we’ve missed all season.

Commentary in MOTD a bit mocking of Fornals goal. If it was someone in a Liverpool or Man U shirt they’d be wanking themselves dry.

Well Bugger me backwards and f*ck me sideways I never saw that result coming! I'd love to know if Moyes has changed our tactics or if it's been a player revolt leading to our 180 degree change to a more attack minded approach

Anyone can be dangerous from set pieces if the defending team don't bother to mark your striker.

We're a threat from set-pieces when Cresswell is playing. When he isn't - not so much...

Re: ⚽ Bournemouth v West Ham - Official Match Thread - It's a Ratch
O'Neil said we are a threat from set pieces.

Not this season we haven't been. Even after today, only 6 teams have scored fewer goals from set pieces than us (penalties excluded), in the Premier League.

We have scored 8 goals from set pieces, including today's 3.

One of the reasons, we are where we are in the league.

We are the joint highest, in the numbers of penalties won in the league.

We are also have, the lowest number of goals conceded from set pieces.
